Casa de Cafe

Venue: Casa de Cafe

I decided to post about this cafe first before I post others is because this cafe just open a week ago and some of you might not know about it yet so, I am here to introduce it to you. ^^  So, yesterday my group of friends wanted to have gathering for one of our friend Bryan who just came back from New Zealand for his holiday. At first, we did not have any idea where to go until Yuan who stayed Kota Laksamana told us that there is a newly open shop nearby his housing area. From that point onwards there's no need for any discussion because trying new places are part of our hobby after all. ^^

The cabinet that you can put your shoes in and also if you notice those shoes lying around the floor.

Me and Lee reached late, and was told that the cafe has second floor which has nicer environment compare to the ground floor which looks just like normal cafe but I still like the design of the whole building section of the cafe. Once we arrived, we straight head to the second floor of the cafe because our friends were already there waiting for us. The moment you enter through the entrance of the second floor, we were told that we have to take off our shoes before we could enter. I felt that this idea of taking off our shoes at the entrance is a bit of awkward and will also look messy if the number of shoes are a lot. They do provide cabinet to put your shoes in it but the number of cabinet provided are not enough if there are a lot of customers. The reason we have to take off our shoes is because the seating on that floor is like Japanese restaurant style seating where you take off your shoes and then you sit on the wooden floor. This is to ensure that the place that you are sitting will not get dirty but I felt that this beat the purpose because all the waiter and waitress there did not took off their shoes. They had their shoes on when they serve you but they will not step into the place that the customers sit. So, why don't just allow the customers to wear their shoes until their seat and take them off before they take their sit? This will definitely looks less messy and easier for us to find our shoes (one of the customer forgot which cabinet he had put his shoes in and the waiter had to help him find them.).

You do not need to wear your shoes when you want to go to the toilet as they provide slippers for you before you enter. There are also some soft leather cushion provided for you to sit or lean on to make you feel more comfortable. As I took a look at the menu, I realize the menu is just a few pages and not much choices to choose from (This does not matter if the food and drinks are good ^^).

Me and Lee had to wait for quite sometime before our order were taken because the service seems to be slow and unorganized.  After that, they even gave me the wrong drink and when asked, one of the waitress said  that it is my drink but I insist her to double check with the bar because I ordered chocolate but that drink smell like coffee to me. Turns out I am right. The drink that was wrongly served was Black Coffee ('Just Black' on the menu) and the waitress apologize to me for the mistake. This kind of mistake can be forgiven as the cafe is only open for a week, so, those workers do not know the name and appearances of the food and drinks on the menu yet I guess.

'Just Black'- The black coffee that was wrongly served

Cafe Latte

This was what Lee ordered. HOT CAFE LATTE. I did not taste it but it looks nice on first glance.

Extreme Chocolate
This was my order. Extreme Chocolate which cost me RM 7.00. I feel that it is overprice as it taste just like normal iced chocolate and I can get the same taste of drink for RM 3++ or lesser. Other than this drink, I also ordered a Scones which cost me RM 2.20. I had never eat Scones before until that day thus, I don't know whether what I ate was a good Scones or not. ^^ It's like a cookies+cake combination. It tasted a little 'dry' though.

Rating: 6/10

Reviews: For the environment and also the design of the cafe, I would say a good job done. Some of the drinks are kind of over priced to me and also I had yet to try their main dishes so, I cannot comment on the food yet. Overall, this cafe is a new style cafe in Malacca and it's a nice cafe but hopefully the service will improve soon and also the 'shoes rule' will change soon.

Location: It is situated at the newly build shop lots at the T-junction of Kota Laksamana. If you come from Ong Kim Wee towards Kota Laksamana, you will not miss it as it will be on your right hand side. you can see it by the road side.

Say 'YA' To Yakult.

Venue: Yakult Factory, Seremban 2.

Few weeks ago, I receive an event invitation via Facebook from one of my friend which is one of the members of MMUIET. The event was a visit to Yakult Factory in Seremban 2. At first I hesitated because I had class on that day and was thinking whether to skip them and go for the one day trip or not. At last, I decided to go because I had always wanted to join MMUIET trip when they visit to those factory because it is educational but I always had class on the day of the trip. This time I just couldn't hold back myself from going. Yakult is one of the cultured milk brands in Malaysia other than Vitagen. "Yakult is a world pioneer in the field of probiotics. Born from the research of a doctor in 1935, we have over 75 years of research experience. Yakult has spread around the world, and is loved by 28 million people from 32 countries and regions."- Taken from Yakult Website. They came to Malaysia in 2004 which means it's just been 6 years since the Yakult cultured milk started to sell in Malaysia.

The blue cap, Less Sugar Yakult cultured milk drink

The starting of the trip was not a good one for me because my stomach was not feeling well in the beginning of the trip. We left our campus by bus at 12pm (suppose to start our journey at 11.30am but we had to wait for a person which delayed the journey by 30 minutes. ^^) and it took us exactly 1 hour to reach Seremban 2.  As we reached the factory, the rain started pouring down and I had no chance to snap the outside view of the factory due to the heavy rain. As we got down from our bus, we were greeted by a friendly guide which will guide us around the factory. When u walk in through the front door, you could immediately see a map made of metal on the wall showing those countries that had Yakult brand.

The metal map and one of the MMUIET member ^^

We were told that we will be given a briefing about Yakult products, the processing of the product and also the history of Yakult. We were then brought upstairs to the briefing room. Just outside the briefing room, you are able to see the different types of product that is under the Yakult brand. To our surprise, Yakult is not just about cultured milk but they also sell others product such as cosmetics and other food products. When asked why the other products are not brought into Malaysia market, the guide told us that this is because Yakult cultured milk drink is the main core product of the company. So, they want to make it the number 1 brand in Malaysia first before they bring in the other products.

A case showing all the products that are under Yakult company

In the briefing room, we were shown slides about the processing of the cultured milk drink and also the bacteria that it contains. We were also shown a video about how Yakult cultured milk drink had help  people who had digestive problem. We were also told that the efficient amount of Yakult we should drink per day is 2 bottles. Drinking more than that will be a waste because the number of bacteria in 2 bottles of Yakult is sufficient to help the digestive system. Then, the guide ask us did we realize that the shape of the bottle sold in Malaysia is different from other countries. All of us actually realize that and the reason was because Yakult came in late to this country and Vitagen had already used that bottle shape for their cultured milk drink so, Yakult could not use the same bottle shape and changed it.

The briefing room

There are two types of Yakult cultured milk drink. One is with the red cap while the other is with the blue cap (as shown above in the photo). The blue cap is the less sugar drink while the red cap is the original flavor and the blue cap is a little bit more expensive compare to the red cap bottle. The sugar level in the original flavor Yakult drink is similar to the sugar level in an apple.

After the briefing, we were brought to see the processing and also the machines that process the cultured milk drink. Too bad we could not take photo of those machines and thus, I could not show them to you here. ^^ We were told all the materials are imported from Japan except water and sugar. They even control the quality of the plastic bottle by having a machine in the factory itself to produce them and we were shocked to know that the whole factory only have 40 workers including the 2 Japanese Director and Quality Control Manager. This factory is the only factory in the whole Malaysia but it only have 40 workers?? We continue to tour and see the whole process until the end packaging. The factory operate on office hour base which is from 8am - 5pm and the blue cap, less sugar drink are only produce on Wednesday because the demand is not as much as the original flavor. Yakult is also not available in Sabah and Sarawak due to transportation difficulties. For more information about the whole process, please visit the Yakult website at http://www.yakult.com.my/ . The process are too lengthy for me to explain here and also there are too many scientific terms which are involved and I fear I may explain wrongly to you. ^^

After the tour ended, we headed downstairs again. Some of them bought the cultured milk drink at the counter provided. They were selling it cheaper by 10 cent compare to the price in the market. After visiting the factory, we went to Jusco Seremban 2 to have our lunch. There is nothing much for me to say about Jusco except that I had my first Manhattan Fish Market dish there. ^^ Overall, the trip was an educational one and I learned a lot about Yakult products and its' origin. Kudos to all the MMUIET members for having all this factory visiting trip which educate us about the real working environment in a factory and also all those products and materials that are out there in the market. Hopefully they will held more of such trip.

SAY YES TO YAKULT~~

"Oi! Uncle and Aunty."

Venue: Uncle And Aunty (U-Center, Bukit Beruang)

Last Wednesday I had class from 1pm till 6pm but in between there was a break of an hour. Normally during that hour, Me, Mr.Teo and Vincent would look for a  place to sit down and have a drink or grab a bite of something light if we are feeling hungry but we always end up at the same shop near our campus. We wanted to try something new and we were in luck because we found out that there was this new cafe that just opened for 2 weeks at the shop which used to be Walk In Taipei, which was also a cafe but closed down a few months ago. Without hesitation, we went to the new cafe to try it out. As we reached the cafe and had our seats, Mr.Teo told me that he heard of this cafe before as their first branch is at Cheng area and this is their second. I had no idea about this cafe until that day.

I noticed that the owner of the cafe had repaint the shop with some new colour and hang on a few photo of Malacca tourism spot on the wall. This actually make the cafe looks better compare to last time when Walk In Taipei was operating. The addition of decoration and repainting make the cafe livelier and serve a better environment to the customers.

After looking around the shop, I open the menu to take a glance of what's on the menu for me to order. The food all looks like what you can get in those 'Old Town' like cafe. Nothing special in the food section ( I didn't try the food, maybe they taste nicer than the others cafe. Who knows? ^^)  but there were three things that caught my eyes. First was the 'Milo Dinosaur' (which is actually 'Milo Tabur' if you order it at a mamak stall) because it is priced at RM8.00. At first I felt it was over priced but then I saw one of the waitress serve a glass to one of the customers and changed my thought because the glass was kind of big and the price of Milo powder is not cheap I guess. (Milo Dinosaur - After they make the Milo and chill it, they put Milo powder into it. This way, the Milo powder will not melt and will stay afloat in your Milo drink.) I not sure whether all the drinks glass size from that section of the menu is the same size but I noticed that there was another type of drink was served in the same type of glass.

The Menu

Second thing that caught my eyes is the 'Shake' section of the menu, and the third was the 'Smoothies Blended' section because this two section to me are something that the others cafe does not have. After looking at those two sections, we immediately decided to order them.

The Two Sections on the menu

Mr.Teo ordered the smoothies blended Avocado while Vincent order the Mango shake. As for me, I decided to go for my favorite Milk Tea flavor smoothies blended (I love to drink milk tea!!! ^^) and also ordered a chicken burger to fill my stomach.

From Left: Avocado smoothies, Mil Tea Smoothies and Mango shake

Mr.Teo said his Avocado smoothies tasted just like normal sweet beverages because the taste of the Avocado is not enough. He was fairly disappointed with it but when I let him try my M ilk Tea smoothies, he said the milk tea flavor taste nicer because the aroma and the taste of the milk tea was good enough to go with the cream on top of it. I agree with him totally. On the other hand, Vincent just said the word "Nice!." when I asked him to comment about his Mango shake. So, I guess it really is nice. ^^

Chicken Burger (Single)

AS for my burger, well the condition it is when it was serve was not so nice ( as shown in the photo) but the taste was okay. Like normal typical 'mamak' burger but RM 3.80 is a little over priced. Well, I guess that's cafe standard price. ^^ Overall, not bad for filling your empty stomach.

Overall Rating: 6/10

Reviews: Uncle and Aunty cafe definately is a great cafe and I definately will return soon.

P.S: They have live music during the night time, so maybe you can go during the night to enjoy the singing. I hope they last for a very long time and will not close down like all the past cafes.

Locations: At U-Center, Bukit Beruang. Same row of shop with Mori Cafe. You will not miss it because their signboard is hang high up. ^^

P.S: I do not know where is the location of the Cheng branch, but will post about it if I manage to visit it.

3 Days of Sandy Beaches (Part 1)

Venue: Port Dickson

Last semester break, me and Mr.Teo decided to plan a trip to Port Dickson (The actual plan was to Desaru, Johor but due to transportation problem, we decided to change place) for holiday. We had always wanted to go holiday to a place where there are beaches but we don't know which one would be nicer as there are a few beach base vacation spots that are around Malacca such as Desaru, Port Dickson and Cherating. (We did not consider Island due to our budget restriction. ^^)  At last we choosed the cheapest and nearest destination of all the three but at first we did have doubt whether it will be fun or not if we go to PD but in the end we were satisfied. For the trip, we decided to ask our friend K.W to tag along.

Here's Our Journey Journal:

  • On the first day of our trip, we were running a little late in the morning before we depart because Mr.Teo had a few things to do before he could fetch K.W and me. We departed around 11.30am ad did not use the high way road to go to Port Dickson because we wanted to stop by a place call Tanjung Bidara along the way there.

Tanjung Bidara Main Enterance

  •  In the past, Tanjung Bidara used to be a picnic spot for many family during the weekend. It's situated near Kem Terendak, an army camp in Malacca. Kids would go there and swim in the sea with their parents and the beach would be flooded with people. That's how I remember it...but...not anymore now.

Tanjung Bidara Beach

  • The beach is empty and dirty, so does the sea water, and also there was open burning when we were there. It's kind of heartache to see a once beautiful picnic spot becoming like this and also our childhood memories of the place is totally different from the reality look now.
A Small Jetty At Tanjung Bidara

  •  We were at the beach for about just half an hour and we decided to leave because there was nothing much to see or explore about the place.  (We paid RM 2 for the parking just for that.) We left Tanjung Bidara at around 12.30pm and finally we reached our destination (Port Dickson) at around 1.30pm but we can only check into the place that we are going to stay at 3pm. So, we decided to take a small tour to 'Wan Loong Temple' . It is consider as one of the biggest and most beautiful temple in Port Dickson. ( I repeat, biggest and most beautiful in PORT DICKSON not MALAYSIA, so don't expect it to be too fascinating. ^^)
The two enterance with two different names on it

  • It is situated at just before the Roundabout that leads you to PD Town and Tol, if you are coming from Malacca but not by the high way. (See map for more info because it is hard for me to explain in words. ^^) You should not miss it as it has a exactly same beautiful restaurant just directly opposite it.

  • The temple is surrounded by a 'Great Wall' like wall. The temple is famous not because of it's design but also is famous for.....Tortoise. Believe it or not there is a tortoise who is aged over 100 years old ( I do not have a photo of the tortoise here because K.W was taking the photo of it, so I thought I could take those photo from him but he lost his camera after the PD trip. Sadly.) living in the temple and the locals said if you were to touch the tortoise and pray in the temple, you will have good luck, especially if you are buying lottery. There were newspaper cuttings on the inside of the temple which report that there were a few people who came to touch the tortoise and pray won first prize of lottery for a few months. Believe the story or not, it's up to you. I believe the story about the tortoise but just not into the lottery part. ^^
The 'Great Wall' Like Wall Which you can walk on

  • Those were photos from inside of the temple. Reminds you of Journey To The West? ^^ After sight seeing and taking photo, we felt hungry. So where's our next destination? Lunch at the beautiful looking restaurant just directly opposite the temple as we had no idea where to have our lunch and was too hungry to look for food.
The restaurant just opposite the temple (This view was snapped from the temple)

  • This restaurant has the design of a temple and only the ground floor is restaurant while the other two floors are use for some primary school old boys society. The moment we step into the restaurant, we saw only two tables that had customers despite the number of tables there. I was starting to worry that maybe the food there wasn't nice but we decided to have our seats and wait to be serve by the waitress. When the waitress came to us, we asked her to suggest the type of Chinese cuisine that she can recommend to us but all those dishes that she recommended such as mantis prawn, cod fish, prawn and etc. was expensive dishes and we do not have the budget to order them so we decided to take matters into our own hand and picked our own dishes. ^^
So, the dishes are.................

Fried Rice

We ordered fried rice to go with our two other dishes .The fried rice taste good and not as what I expect when I had my first glance at it because normally those fried rice that I eat outside if it is having this kind of colour (almost look like normal plain rice), it either taste just like plain rice or the taste is not enough to satisfy my taste bud.

Lemon Chicken

The second dish that we ordered was Lemon chicken. It taste okay because the chicken meat wasn't too soft or soggy because of the lemon sauce. The chicken meat still maintain a little bit of crispiness.
Overall this is an okay dish for me.

Vege Fried With Oyster Sauce

The third dish is vege fried with oyster sauce. As I said before for my previous post (Dynasty Cafe post), a plate of vege that is cook in this way must be cook well to ensure that the oyster sauce will give a taste to the naturally tasteless vege. This dish meet the requirement.

  • Overall the food there was nice and the price is affordable. Each of us had to pay RM 11.00 for the food there. After filling up our stomach, there was still around half an hour more before we can check into our room so we decided to go to Teluk Kemang Beach to have a first look at one the beaches that are at Port Dickson. We went there and saw many activity going around on the beach such as banana boat, kayaking, and people riding speedboat or jet ski. The beach and sea water around it looks clean.
Teluk Kemang Beach

  • We sat on a few chairs that were put by the beaches for 15 minutes enjoying sea breeze, before we were told we need to pay to sit on the chair. No wonder nobody sat on it when we came. ^^ We left immediately after been told that because we are not willing to pay just to sit on the chair. ^^

The Chair that you need to pay for before you sit. ^^

A Visit to The 'Dynasty' Era.

Venue: Dynasty Cafe.

Few weeks ago, I found out about this place through a blogger whom also blog about food and so I decided to pay it a visit myself. I visited this place twice up to now and I feel that it is a nice place to dine in with family and friends.( I decided not to break my two visits there into two post but write them as one post instead.) The environment and food is good and the price of the food are affordable. The cafe have two floors altogether. The top floor is very cozy and is a very nice spot for friends to have group talks because they provide comfortable sofas but I would recommend for those who want to dine to sit at the ground floor because the table at the top floor is kind off small. I did not have the chance to sit at the top floor because by 8.30pm, the place was full with customers. I will post about it when I visit it again next time.

As for the menu, they have this set which include a plate of rice + the serving of dish that you desire + a drink ( They call it Ai Yu ice or tea if I am not mistaken.) which only cost you rm 6.50. I did not personally try the set but judging from the number of customers that ordered it, I think it's taste good and the portion of the meat given were quite a lot. Most importantly, as i mentioned, the price is affordable. They sell western food and also Chinese cuisine that will be serve with plain rice. Other than that, they also have desserts and snacks.

Sorry for the blur photo.

What caught the eyes of me and my friends was the name of one of the desserts and also one of the snacks. The dessert is named 'Sui Bian' which means 'Anything' in chinese while the name of the snack is named 'Sui Bian Lai Yi Die" which means 'Just serve anything' (Pardon me if my 'pinyin' are wrong because I am not chinese educated. ^^ Sorry.). My friends and I had a good laugh out of it because we did not expect to see such name on the menu. All the workers there speak Cantonese as their language but some of them do understand Mandarin and they use the self service order list so, you have to write the code and quantity of the food that you want to order before you give the list to the waiter. Let me remind you that please do not simply write things on the 'Remarks' part or the waiter will come back and ask you what you had wrote, like what had happened to me. (^^)

----> Enough introduction to the restaurant now lets move on to the dishes and drinks that me and my friends     ordered.

9 Degree Celsius Peach+Apple

This was the drink that I ordered the first time I went there. At first I thought it was some special drink because of its' name but turn out it is just juice flavored drink that is bottled. My friend told me that this bottle of drink can be bought outside but it is much more expensive by a few cents compare to Dynasty Cafe. This bottle of drink cost me RM 4.50. I would not recommend this drink though because it is too common.

My first visit there I ordered Fish and Chips ( I do not have photo to show here) because I wanted to try  whether they use fresh fish or frozen ones as I am a fish lover. When the dish was served to me, it looked different from all the others fish and chips that I had tried. Even one of my friend, Eric, said so. My first bite into the fish, I found out that there is nothing wrong with the fish meat as they use quite fresh fish fillet but the problem is the flour that covers it. They use those flour that we use for fried chicken to fry the fish fillet and create a contrast in the texture because the fish fillet is soft but the flour which cover it, is hard. The taste of the fish and chips was just okay and not too bad of a taste but the texture is a problem there. Not recommended for people who love to eat Fish and chips. ^^

'Sui Bian' - Anything

For my second visit, I decided to have dinner at there , so I grabbed my friends Mr.Teo and Vincent to a dine together with me and also introduce them a new place to eat. I decided to order the dessert, Anything, to give it a try and I am also curious of what it might contain. The dessert looks and taste the same like the others dessert on the menu but inside it contains extra a few things such as longan and etc. They serve the dessert on a bowl fill with ice to keep it cold. This dessert cost RM4.90. The most expensive on the menu and also a little over priced.

Vege fried with oyster sauce

For the food, we decided to order Chinese cuisine and eat with plain rice as we were very hungry ( you can add plain rice to go with the dishes if you eat this way ^^).  We ordered this vege which is fried with oyster sauce and it tasted really good. The taste of the oyster sauce is strong enough to give the naturally tasteless vege a taste. Although it is just a plate of fried vegetable but if you taste it properly, you will find that it is different from vegetable that are not fried as well as this is. Highly recommended (I forgot the price, should be around RM 6.00 - RM 8.00. SORRY)

Lemon chicken
For the second dish, Mr.Teo wanted to order beef because he saw an illustration of the beef dish in the menu and it look nice but too bad Vincent does not eat beef. Mr.Teo was quite dissapointed but nevermind, we change the order to Lemon chicken (cheer up Mr.Teo). The lemon chicken is just a plate of lemon chicken. Meaning it is nothing special compare to those sold at other restaurants, except the chicken is crispy enough and also the small slices of lemon on top of it ( I ate a few of them together with the chicken meat).

The last dish that we ordered is this red and spicy looking soup like dish. It is covered in dried chilies. When we ordered it, the waiter told us (in cantonese) that it is very spicy but we decided to give it a shot because I found out about this dish through the same blog that I found out about this place. When the dish came, we tested it, and we felt that it was too oily. It is not as spicy as we thought because it does looks spicy. There are fish fillets and cucumber in it. Overall, the fish fillets are fresh but it is too oily. worth giving it a try because it is something new and special. (this dish cost us around RM 13 - RM 15. I forgot the price and name
for this dish but will update as soon as I find out. ^^).

Overall Rating: 7/10

Reviews: I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone although some of the dishes might not taste very nice but the environment there gave me a nice feel to dine in there.

P.S: Those who had went to this restaurant and took some photo of the drinks or food can share it with me as I haven't try all that  are on the menu.

Location: It is situated at the shop lot opposite the already closed down Senyum Super at Melaka Raya. You have to look on your right hand side before you reach  the 'Yong Peng Fish ball' shop ( I do not give address because to me, I feel that it is easier for people to find the place if I explain it this way. ^^)

P.S: Actually Dynasty Cafe has two outlets in Malacca but with different name. One is Dynasty Cafe at Melaka Raya which I mentioned in my blog, and another one is situated at Cheng Bestari area, the shop lot just after 'Cowboy' supermarket. The name of the shop at Cheng Bestari is Dynasty Ice n' Snacks.
